The Sports Emmys Awards ceremony took place at dawn on May 22 (Vietnam time) awarded many program items for sports around the world in the past year. Accordingly, the League of Legends won the “prominent Esports event of the year” with the Worlds 2023 final when T1 defeated Weibo Gaming 3-0, thereby winning the fourth championship in the organization history.

To receive this award, Worlds 2023 overcame a series of major eSports events of the year such as the final of IEM Cologne 2023 (G2 3-1 Ence), CDL Championship Weekend (New York Subliners 5-0 Toronto Ultra), Blast Paris Major (Team Vitality 2-0 Gamerlegion) and Valorant Champions 2023 (Evil Geneses 3-1 Papere Rex).
Speaking at the award, Riot Games's deputy director of Esports content replaced director John Needham: “Those are the legendary moments that our producers and writers work tirelessly to record and each year we want to say 'it's the best moment'”

Notably, this is the fourth time Worlds received this award, after 5 times this award was awarded. The only game of Riot Games was not honored by 2021 when The International 10 Final between Team Spirit 3-2 PSG.LGD won this award. The Esports Award at Sports Emmys has been put into the U.S. National Television Academy (NATAS) in the Emmy Awards sports award since 2020, showing the growing attraction of Esports to the sports world so far.
