Vietnam Electronic Sports Union in ASIAD 19

Taking place from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou City (China), ASIAD 19 will be the first congress to bring electronic sports (eSports) into the content of the official medal competition. Earlier, Esports appeared as ASIAD 18's performance in Jakarta, Indonesia (2018).

Vietnam Electronic Sports Delegation did not win any medals in ASIAD 19

Electronic sports at ASIAD 19 have 30 countries attending, with 476 athletes, including 8 women and 468 men. Thailand is a country with the highest number of eSports athletes attending ASIAD 19 with 32 athletes. Behind Thailand is China, Hong Kong (China) respectively with 31 athletes, Vietnam – 26 athletes.

At ASIAD 19, Vietnam Electronic Sports Group competes in 6 subjects including Arena of Valor, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, Ea Sports FC Online, League of Legends, PUBG Mobile and Street Fighter V.

After 11 days of competition at Hangzhou Electronic Sports Center (China), the Vietnam Electronic Sports Delegation did not win any medals. Instead, the best achievement of the Vietnam Electronic Sports Delegation in ASIAD 19 is only 4th, the final in Arena of Valor, League of Legends and Dream Three Kingdoms 2.

The Vietnam Electronic Sports & Entertainment Association (Viresa) does not set a specific medal criteria in ASIAD 19. Instead, Viresa periodically determines ASIAD 19 is a great opportunity for Esports Vietnam teams to verify their capacity, as well as learn from electronic sports powers such as China and South Korea.

At ASIAD 19, Chinese hosts topped the electronic sports medal with 4 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. Behind China is Korea – 2 gold medals, 1 gold medal, 1 bronze medal; Thailand – 1 gold medal, 1 gold medal, 2 bronze medals; Taipei China – 2 gold medals, 2 bronze medals.
