FAQs with development team
– What is your goal when designing Nuncca Olvidados?
The image leader of Sean Marino: Initially we wanted to create this skin line and debuted in 2020, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful due to the urgent schedule. That's why the plan is still delayed until now.
Skin inspired by cultural festivals like this is what we have always cherished for a long time to pursue the goal of bringing the game to the globe. It is not new for games to have a skin based on the dead (Mexican festival).
Therefore, I want that we can break out of familiar patterns when designing this skin line. The main goal is to create beautiful skins in the form and bold culture. Specifically, the Skin line must bring the atmosphere of the dead festival without hanging all kinds of skulls cross -bone. True is what we aim for.
– Where did you inspire and want to convey the special message through Nunca Olvidados?
The image leader of Sean Marino: We really want the artistic style of this skin line to bring a sense of reality, not just the general combination of cross -bone skull and marigold. Inspired by some artists, we want to ensure the images and colors that use the right spirit of the holiday.
The art style that we aim is to use dark colors and color change to bring an overall mysterious beauty. We focus on the balance between simple and beautiful. Besides the image, we also refer to some designs in a slightly modern direction with neon paint.
We see this is a great opportunity to combine “day/night” transition techniques, meaning some image details on weapons can vary depending on whether the player is in the dark or bright areas of the map.
Another interesting challenge when designing this skin is to find ideas for melee weapons. We tested a few types of weapons, from knives, daggers, even something that looked like a stick with a skull -shaped hilt that when drawn was a sword.
However, we finally happened to read a few references about the Tranchete knife, also known as Saca Tripas (a classic combat knife of Mexico). We feel that this knife will be a great material to design like other weapons.

– Can you share interesting challenges or stories when designing Nunca Olvidados?
Sean Marino image leader: All design members have invested a lot of effort in this skin. That effort not only revolves around the creation of the Skin itself, but also for the player card, integrating and creating a transfer effect day/night, even considering colorful options to bring to players.
One of our final decisions with this skin is to allow players to choose the day or night version through the color. It is also a big challenge, because we have to abandon some changes that have been made in the process of setting this feature, but that is completely worth it to meet the needs of players who only want one of the two versions.
And there is a huge challenge that we face, which is time. We came up with this skin design idea right after Valorant's debut.
At that time, we had to race with time if we wanted to complete the skin before the 2020 festival. When we realized it was not feasible, we were quite sad because we would have to wait a whole year to launch this skin. But that also gives us more time to really focus on bringing a meticulous, elaborate product.
