Recently, Riot Games has officially allowed teams to cooperate with sponsors related to betting since 2025. Accordingly, the League of Legends and Valorant teams in the Americas and Emea have been informed about this change and these are the first two test areas before Riot decided to apply to all regions.
However, this decision of Riot Games has received mixed opinions. Previously, the company has banned any activity related to betting, but this decision will make ESPORTS subjects change big when the teams will receive additional money from betting brands.
Recently, Riot Games's Coo Esports, Whalen Rozelle, answered this issue. He confirmed that this decision was not easy and planned as well as carefully researched before publication. However, Riot also has special regulations for betting units that want to invest.
This special rule includes betting brands will not appear on broadcasting programs, social networks or shirts of the teams. In addition, these units need to be licensed from Riot Games and must conform to content and advertising requirements.
In addition, Rozelle mentioned that Riot Games will assess opportunities to expand or tweak its approach in the future, depending on the original cooperation method.
