BLV Riot Games calls LCS player 'fool' retirement

After more than a decade of accompanying League of Legends fans, one of the most famous commentators will start a new chapter in his career. David “Phreak” Turley confirmed he would stop doing shoutcasting and transferred to a designer in Riot Games's Summoner's Rift team. This new role is originally the dream of the 35 -year -old BLV from the days in the university lecture hall and now is the time for phreak to realize it after experiencing League of Legends from the first season.

“This seems to be the right time” – Phreak spreads. “There are many things that I still have to learn about my full capacity and everything else. So I think I will learn a lot.” Phreak started the Esports journey with Riot in 2009 – the time he registered to practice in the community development position and game design. Finally, he was allocated as a community trainee and paved the way to turn Phreak into one of the most favorite faces in the League of Legends ecosystem – especially comments at the number one tournament in the world.

Phreak caused a “storm” in the League of Legends community when he did not hesitate to call Fudge a “idiot” while commenting on a live match at LCS in the summer of 2022. At that time, Cloud9's top lane was solo Kill at level 1, even though he knew he would burn and bear damage from many soldiers on the road. Everything was turned to last year, Phreak had an interview with Riot for a game design position. At the end of the summer of 2022, this veteran BLV knew he wanted to pursue this opportunity. Right during the 2022 Worlds, he knew he had passed the interview, accepted negotiations with the company and will do new jobs from January 2023.

The foundation and experience that phreak gains from a community to the famous BLV will play an important role for himself as well as the Summoner's Rift team. However, he admitted that switching to a completely new job was extremely scary because he did not know what the front would be like but Riot still believed in Phreak's talent. In any case, the audience watching LCS, Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and World Worlds will no longer hear the inspirational and energetic voice of phreak since the 2023 season.
