At the World Championship 2024, the LCS area brings 3 teams: Flyquest, Team Liquid and 100 Thieves. In particular, 100 Thieves is the No. 3 seed of the tournament, and ranked third in the LCS season. To win tickets to the biggest tournament of the year, the 100 Thieves had worked hard to overcome two strong teams Dignitas (3-2) and Cloud9 (3-1).
As a team from the large area, 100 Thieves is expected to easily overcome the play-in round, especially when this team has many young players and perform well in the live qualifying round. However, 100 Thieves were soon eliminated from the play-in. Starting with the 1-2 defeat against Rainbow7, 100 Thieves defeated Softbank Hawks but was eventually defeated by PSG Talon, which officially left the tournament.
Thus, 100 Thieves also set a record that the first North American team was eliminated from the Worlds's play-in round 2024. This is also the 4th time that the organization attended Worlds after 2018, 2021 and 2022, however this team was in the group stage and never had to play from the Play-in.
Currently, the LCS area will only have 2 representatives competing in the Swiss round of Worlds 2024 are FlyQuest and Team Liquid. Accordingly, Flyquest will meet GAM ESPORTS and Team Liquid will confront Esports at the World Championship 2024.
In recent years, the achievement of the LCS area is not too impressive. In 2023, NRG Esports was the only Western team to overcome the Swiss round, but the representative from LCS also faced a lot of advantages when constantly confronting representatives from LCS and LEC.
Even if considering previous years, the best achievement of LCS is to reach the semi -finals of Worlds 2018, performed by Cloud9. However, with the continuous tournament reduction in the number of teams as well as bad international achievements, LCS's achievements are expected to not be more likely in the coming years.
